Pad XILINX chips

The XILINX type used in the 1996 Pad repeater logic was

XC3042A-6

in a 100pin VQFP case.

The XILINX type used in the new (from 1997 on) Pad repeater logic is

XC3190A-2

in a 160pin PQFP case.

16 chips are implemented in the fully equipped pad detector. They are configured by the bit serial protocol over approx. 40m cable. All 8 XILINX chips of one detector half are configured in a single serial slave string, e.g. configuration data are passed from one XILINX to the other. The master device is a much smaller XILINX located in the PDS module in the trailer. Download data - prepared by a XILINX development system and saved in the .mcs   format - are presented to it by the BST Slow Control Macintosh via a VME interface following the byte parallel peripheral protocol.

For the pinout of the XILINX chips refer to this documentation.
