The Organizing Committee 1. About the Symposium: Quantum chromodynamics (QCD) has been established as the fundamental theory of the strong interaction since 1974. Nevertheless, there remain lots of interesting problems relating to nonperturbative dynamics in the infrared region of QCD such as color confinement, dynamical chiral-symmetry breaking and topologies. To understand the nonperturbative physics in QCD, effective models and mathematical approaches have been studied. In particular, the lattice QCD Monte Carlo simulations have been progressed as a useful method for the analysis of nonperturbative QCD. The color confinement mechanism is one of the most difficult problems remaining in the theoretical particle physics. On the quark confinement, the dual superconductor picture first proposed by Nambu in 1974 has been reconsidered both in the lattice QCD and in the Seiberg-Witten theory for the N=2 SUSY QCD. The purpose of the present Symposium is the mutual understanding of the current studies of nonperturbative QCD, especially for the confinement mechanism, among the mathematical physics, the lattice QCD physics and the quark-hadron physics. This Symposium is the successor of the International Workshop on "Color Confinement and Hadrons" (Confinement'95) held in March 1995 in Osaka. 2. Basic plan of the Symposium: Dates: March 7 (Tue.) - March 10 (Fri.), 2000 Place: Icho kaikan on the Suita Campus, Osaka University Expected Size: about 120-150 participants The subjects to be discussed Quark Confinement Mechanism Dynamical Chiral-Symmetry Breaking Topologies in QCD (Instantons, Monopoles and Vortices) Deconfinement Phase Transition Role of Duality in SUSY and non-SUSY QCD BRST formalism for Confinement Nonperturbative Analysis (1/Nc, ladder QCD, AdS/CFT) 3.
