  Photoproduction of $\Upsilon$ mesons
  in the kinematic region of the photon-proton centre-of-mass energy 
  $70 < W_{\gamma p} < 270\:\mbox{GeV}$ is observed using data collected in the
  years 1994 to 1997 with the H1 detector at the $ep$ collider HERA.  \\
  The $\Upsilon$ mesons are reconstructed via their leptonic decays into two 
  muons or electrons. The cross section for the reaction $\gamma p \rightarrow
  \Upsilon p$ is determined and compared to QCD calculations.
