Abstract Using the H1 detector at HERA, open beauty production is measured in deep inelastic scattering (DIS). Jet events with an identified muon are selected, and the fraction of beauty events in the sample is estimated from the transverse momentum of the muon relative to the jet axis, and from the muon impact parameter with respect to the primary event vertex. With the integrated luminosity accumulated up to the year 2000 measurements of differential distributions become possible, which are confronted to QCD predictions at next-to-leading order.
