Introduction
In order to measure the hadronic energy leaking out of the LAC and
Spacal (BEMC), eleven of the sixteen limited streamer tube layers of
the instrumented iron are equipped in addition with readout electrodes,
which covers several tubes. This part of the calorimeter system is named
Tail Catcher (TC).
As an example for the
increase of the performance of the calorimeter system by this method,
the following picture shows a candidate of a charge current event.
|
Kinematics of this CC-event
Leakage detection | x | Q2 |
without TC | 0.37 |
71000 GeV2 |
with TC | 0.46 |
10100 GeV2 |

Candidate of a charge current event
This calorimeter system needs
- calibration
- Calibration of the electronic readout
- Calibration of the Tail Catcher cells (Towers)
- energy calibration of the Tail Catcher
- long-term stability
- software for
- reconstruction
- simulation
- and due to the topology
of the events, the big surface area of the iron yoke and the mean energy
deposition, special cuts to get rid of the background.
In addition the Tail Catcher covers the backward acceptance hole for
hadrons.
