Abstract Dijet production in deep inelastic ep scattering is investigated in the regime of low Bjorken-x (10^-4 < x < 10^-2) and low squared four-momentum transfers Q2 (5 < Q2 < 100 GeV2). the resulting dijet cross sections are compared with perturbative QCD calculations in next-to-leading order (NLO). For most dijet variablesstudied, these claculations provide a reasonable description of the data over almost the full phase space covered. Striking differences are, however, found for events with small azimuthal jet separation, an observable recently proposed to gain insight into the concept of unintegrated gluon densities. This is true for NLO calculations as well as for predictions from various leading order Monte Carlo models differing mainly in the way they model higher order effects through parton cascades. In particular, predictions based on the CCFM evolution equation, which incorporates the idea of unintegrated parton distributions, fail to describe the data.
