Abstract A search for anomalous top quark production mediated by a flavour changing neutral current via a gamma-u-t coupling is performed in e^{\pm}p collisions at HERA. The search exploits data from an integrated luminosity of 115.2 pb-1}. The top decays into a b-jet and a W boson are considered in both the leptonic and the hadronic decay modes of the W. In the leptonic decay modes, five events are found to be compatible with the hypothesis of anomalous top quark production while 1.8 events are expected from the Standard Model. No excess above the Standard Model expectation is found in the hadronic decay channel. An upper limit on the anomalous gamma-u-t coupling of kappa_{gamma,u}=0.22 is established in the framework of recent NLO calculations.
