Programs and tools useful for fitting

Fitting programs

QCDFIT
Authors: Christian Pascaud
Fabian Zomer
Manual: PS-File
Short Description: QCDFIT is a QCD fit program. The program solves the DGLAP equations which are considered in Leading Log Approximation (LLA) and in Nect to Leading Log Approximation (NLLA).

QCDNUM
Author: Michiel Botje
Manual: PS-File
Short Description: QCDNUM is a program which numerically evolves parton distributions using the Altarelli Parisi QCD evolution equations in LO or in NLO in the MS bar scheme. From the evolved distributions the structure functions F2, FL and xF3 can be calculated. The program can handle flavor thresholds at fixed values of Q2 (light quark variable flavor number scheme) or, alternatively, evolve the three light quarks only and calculate the charm and bottom contributions to the structure functions from the photon-gluon fusion process (heavy quark fixed flavor number scheme). To study the scale uncertainties it is possible to independently vary renormalization scale and the mass factorization scale.
Remarks: QCDNUM has been implemented for H1 analysis (High-Q2 analysis)

POPTIM
Authors: V. Blobel
Manual: PS-File
Short Description:

MINUIT
Authors: CERN
Manual: PS-File (not availabe right now)
Online documentation at CERN
Short Description: Minuit is conceived as a tool to find the minimum value of a multi-parameter function and analyze the shape of the function around the minimum. The principal application is foreseen for statistical analysis, working on chisquare or log-likelihood functions, to compute the best-fit parameter values and uncertainties, including correlations between the parameters. It is especially suited to handle difficult problems, including those which may require guidance in order to find the correct solution.

Programs for calculation of cross sections and radiative corrections

EPRC
Authors: H. Spiesberger
Manual: PS-File
Short Description: The EPRC package is a collection of programs and routines designed for the calculation of cross sections for neutral and charged current deep inelastic lepton proton scattering at HERA including electroweak radiative corrections.
Remarks: The EPRC hompage provides the latest news on EPRC.

HECTOR
Authors: A. Arbuzov, D. Bardin, J.Bluemlein, P. Christova, L. Kalinovskaya, T. Riemann
Manual: PS-File
Short Description: HECTOR calculates double-differential cross sections for deep inelastic NC and CC deep inelastic ep-scatter and QED, QCD and elevtroweak radiative corrections.
Remarks: HECTOR homepage with news on HECTOR
HECTOR source code (version 1.00)
Read the downloaded file before installation.
HECTOR has been implemented in H1 and thoroughly debugged. Contact Eram Rizvi .

ZFITTER
Authors: D. Bardin, M. Bilenky, A. Chizhov, O. Fedorenko, L. Kalinovskaya, A. Olshevsky, S. Riemann, T. Riemann, M. Sachwitz, A. Sazonov, Yu. Sedykh, I. Sheer, L. Vertogradov
Manual: PS-File
Short Description: ZFITTER is a program designed for the (semi-)analytical calculation of fermion pair production. It is useful in the calculation of electroweak corrections.
Remarks: News on ZFITTER at DESY Zeuthen

DIZET
Authors: A. Akhundov, D. Bardin, M. Bilenky, P. Christova, S. Riemann, T. Riemann, M. Sachwitz, H. Vogt
Manual: Partly described in the manual of ZFITTER (see above). Apart from this: The code is the documentation!
Here's the source code of the DIZET (Ver. 4.6) .
Short Description: The subroutine DIZET is a weak library. It calculates electroweak radiative corrections in the standard theory.

Parton density and parametrization libraries

PDFLIB
Authors: H. Plothow-Besch/CERN-PPE, contact CERNLIB librarian in case of questions
Manual: PS-File
Direct link to CERN
Short Description: The PDFLIB package returns the parton densities within nucleons, pions and photons according to a large set of parameterisations (MRS, GRV,...) and performs alpha(s) calculations. It can be interfaced from other programs to perform cross section calculations.
Remarks: The PDFLIB package is installed in H1 and can be found in /h1/lib. Linking the library within your makefile will provide the functionality of the package.

EPDFLIB
Authors: Michiel Botje
Manual: PS-File (gzipped)
QCDNUM homepage
Short Description: EPDFLIB is a program to read the parton distributions from the QCD analysis described in hep-ph/9912439 (gzipped PS file).

It features:
1. Version 2 is a factor of 15 (!) faster than version 1 (SGI);
2. There is no need to modify your application program but you have to read in *new* input files (mbfit1m.pdfnt2 and .stfnt2);
3. Version checking to protect against reading obsolete files;
4. Routine added to calculate alpha_s(Q2) as used in the QCD fits;
5. Updated write-up.

Remarks: The EPDFLIB package as described above can be found here . The link supplies a "tarred" version of all files available from the QCDNUM homepage. Unpack the files using:
mkdir epdflib
cd epdflib
tar xvf epdflib.tar
