General points
- The Macintosh to control the BDC HV is located in room 307, rack B18 (right).
- The Program is called HVControl 3.3. The icon to start the program is located in the lower left corner of the screen. The program is automatically loaded after booting the Mac.
- After startup it takes a few minutes to load parameters and to initialize the power supplies.
- Do NOT switch on the BDC via LAN (from Tracking Mac) - use the BDC HV control program
- There is no separate "stand by"-mode for the BDC: "stand by" = "off"
- The BDC should be the last chamber to be switched on (CJC1 must be up for several minutes).
Switching HV on
- To switch HV on, click on the button so that it becomes
-HV increases in one or more steps indicated by the lamps "HV Ramp" (HV is increasing) and "Plateau" (end of a step).
- When the HV end value is successfully reached the lamp "HV-endvalue OK" switches on. If an error occurs during the switch-on phase, the lamp "HV-endvalue Error" switches on.
- The lamp "HV-Enable" has to be green to indicate that the HV-enable switches at the two CAEN crates in the trailor (B1,B2) are switched on.
What is shown on the status displays
- The condition of the HV is shown by the four graphs and the array of lamps. The x-axis shows the HV channel number (0-79).
- VMon status / IMon Status: They show whether the actual voltages and/or currents are too high or too low. All channels should show 'OK'.
- HV Status: This is an array of lamps which indicates the status of the channels. If the on/off-status does not correspond with the HV-switch (for example due to a trip), a lamp corresponding to the channel is switched on in the first row of the array. Ramping a channel up or down is indicated by the lamps in the second row. Over- and Under-voltages or -currents are indicated in the third and trips in the fourth row. Normally the area should be totally green.
- VMon and IMon: They show the measured values of voltage and current for each channel. They are not important for the shift crew and look normally look like this (if the chamber is off):
- When HV is off, the graphs should look like the following pictures. Because there is an offset, there is a small current even when HV is switched off:
- When HV is ON, the graphs should look like this:
Troubleshooting
- In case of an error a report is shown in the window "Error record" and the red lamp is flashing. This can be switched off by pressing the button "Acknowledge". Normally this button is invisible (as on the picture).
- If a channel is switched off due to a trip or any other reason one can try to switch it on again by pressing the button "Reactivate". This button is normally greyed out and will only be enabled after a failure.
- In case of severe problems reboot the Mac. The Program "HVControl 3.3" is launched automatically.
